Copies sold
  • UK - 1st week: 222,297. Went platinum (300,000 copies) after 13 days. As of 12th August 2006, the album has gone 2x platinum (over 600,000 sales). As of 22nd August, it had sold over 478,000 copies. According to Q September, has gone twice platinum (600,000; although this may be number of units shipped by the distributors to retailers, rather than copies sold). Apparently at the end of December 2006, it had sold 702,000 copies.
  • Europe -
  • USA - 1st week: around 75,000. Around January 2007, a figure of 281,000 units was rumoured.
NotesThe band announced the album's title and release date with a handwritten note which was posted on the messageboard.

The iTunes edition was sold only before the album's release as a complete package in the UK.

The 'bonus edition' (also know as 'limited edition') which included a DVD was released in: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Hong Kong, Iceland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan, Estonia. Although not released in UK, Amazon.com sell imports of the album to the USA for just $18.98. It features a booklet with lyrics and illustrations for each song.

When we came up with the tracklisting we felt the album fell into two parts. The first half is a very blatant insight into a lot of our darkest thoughts, experiences and fears. The second half is introduced by the atmospherics of 'The Iron Sea' before going into a more magical fairytale world gone wrong.
