USA: It entered the charts on 12th June at 189, and then reappeared on 21st August, charting at 185, 157, 126, 106, 112, 85, 79, 72, 53, 80, 78, 86, 85, 80, 92, 89, 122, 164, 158, 149, 117, 81, 64.

Numbers printedThere were initially 2500 numbered vinyls printed; 1000 of these intended for export, leaving 1500 in the UK. However, I was told that as of 30th June 2004, they'd 'manufactured 3164 units so far, of which 1069 were for export'.
Copies sold
  • UK - As of 11th October 2005, Hopes and Fears had shipped around 2,500,000 copies in the UK alone, making it the 16th best selling album of the millennium.
    Apparently, in the UK the album sold 155,373 copies in its first week of release, over 80,000 copies in its 2nd week, 73,830 copies in its 3rd week, 58,732 copies in its 4th week, over 46,000 copies in its 5th week, and over 47,000 copies in its 6th week in the charts. In the week the Brits winner were announced (week commencing 7th February 2005) Keane sold 75,039 copies of Hopes and Fears sending them back to number 1.
    It broke the million sales barrier on Sunday 17th October having sold more than 1,002,000 copies in the UK.
    Hopes and Fears was the 2nd best selling album of 2004 in the UK with 1,593,677 copies - it was overtaken by Scissor Sisters on the last day of the year, selling just 582 more copies. Source
    As of 1st July 2005, Hopes and Fears had sold 2,136,677 copies in the UK alone. As of 28th November it was the 8th best selling album of 2005 (727,500). As of week ending 18th June 2006, it had sold 2,441,600 copies. This means album has now gone eight-times platinum in the UK.
  • Europe - As of 12th August 2006, it was three times platinum in Europe (over 3,000,000). In December 2004, it went double platinum in Europe - meaning it'd sold over 2,000,000 copies. At the same time, the album went Gold (100,000) in France. In July 2005, Hopes and Fears was certified Gold (100,000) in Germany, and Platinum (100,000) in Spain.
  • USA - By the end of 2005, it had sold a total of 834,687 in the States.
    In 2004, Hopes and Fears sold had sold 387,014 copies in the US. As of May 9th 2005, it had sold 656,000 copies in the US. In 2005, Hopes and Fears sold a total of 447,573 copies in the USA, making it the 131st best selling album of the year.

This means they've now sold over 6 million copies of Hopes and Fears worldwide. Congratulations Keane!
